Context

Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh 2025 is a year-long national celebration marking the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and 150 years of “Vande Mataram.” It honours the resilience, patriotism, and cultural richness of India’s tribal communities while promoting inclusivity and unity.

 

About Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh 2025

What It Is

Led by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) with support from Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), State Governments, Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), and cultural organisations, the initiative celebrates the contribution of tribal heroes to India’s freedom, identity, and development. It also highlights the enduring strength of tribal culture in shaping national values.

 

Aims and Objectives

  • To enhance appreciation of India’s tribal heritage and cultural legacy.
     
  • To increase awareness of tribal contributions to freedom and development.
     
  • To promote unity through cultural and educational engagement aligned with Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.
     
  • To empower tribal communities through education, skills, and awareness.

1. Cultural Commemoration

Public events, exhibitions, and Janjati Gaurav Yatras showcase tribal heroes and their historical role in India’s freedom and identity.

2. Educational Outreach

Schools and colleges organise competitions, workshops, and heritage visits to spread knowledge of tribal history and inspire pride among youth.

3. Community Empowerment

Digital and financial literacy programs in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) strengthen socio-economic inclusion for tribal students.

Major Highlight: Janjati Gaurav Yatra

The Janjati Gaurav Yatra (Tribal Pride March) began from Ambaji and Umargam and reached the Statue of Unity (Ektanagar) from 7th to 13th November 2025.
 The march featured widespread participation, spreading awareness of tribal heroes’ contributions and symbolising unity and pride within the national framework.

 

State-Level Celebrations

  • Odisha: Hosted exhibitions and inaugurated a Bhagwan Birsa Munda Gallery featuring tribal artists.
     
  • Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: Conducted mass singing of “Vande Mataram” in schools to promote patriotism.
     
  • Jammu and Kashmir: Organised an Ethnic Food Festival celebrating tribal cuisines and culture.
     
  • Jharkhand: Held art and cultural performances celebrating Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s legacy.
     
  • Bihar: Conducted essay and quiz competitions along with literacy workshops.
     
  • Tamil Nadu: Hosted drawing competitions highlighting tribal traditions.
     
  • Sikkim: Organised sports meets and health camps in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) to promote youth fitness.
     
  • Nagaland: Held storytelling and traditional dress competitions promoting folk identity and pride.
