Recently, Scientists discovered a plant growth-promoting bacteria, Pantoea Tagorei.
Key Points
- It was named after Rabindranath Tagore.
- “This is a plant growth promoting bacteria which will prove to be a game-changer in agriculture.
- It has shown immense capability to boost the cultivation of paddy, pea and chilli.
About Pantoea Tagorei:-
- It was discovered from soil samples collected in the Jharia coal mines.
- The bacteria has unique properties beneficial for plant growth. (Disease Surveillance System)
- It solubilizes potassium and phosphorus and replenishes nitrogen exhibiting properties of aiding in enhanced plant growth.
- The bacteria has been introduced to farmers in and around the coal mines and they have expressed satisfaction with the positive results.
- The bacteria will reduce the usage of commercial fertilisers and eventually help to cut costs for agriculture and boost crop yield.

- He was a world-renowned poet, litterateur, philosopher and Asia’s first Nobel laureate.
- He was born in Kolkata on May 7, 1861.
- He was popularly known as Bard of Bengal,and
- He introduced new prose and verse forms and the use of colloquial language into Bengali literature, thereby freeing it from traditional models based on classical Sanskrit.
- He was highly influential in introducing Indian culture to the West and vice versa.
- Awards: In 1913 he became the first non-European to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature
- He was awarded a knighthood in 1915, but he repudiated it in 1919 as a protest against the Amritsar (Jallianwala Bagh) Massacre.
