Why in news?

On 17 December 2023, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Kasi Tamil Sangamam 2023.

 

Important points:

  • Kanyakumari-Varanasi Tamil Sangamam train was also given the green signal.
  • Multilingual and Braille translations of Thirukkural, Manimekalai and other classic Tamil literature were also launched on the occasion.
  • It is part of the government's 'Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Yuva Sangam Programme'.

 

About Kasi Tamil Sangamam, 2023:

  • Kashi is the second phase of Tamil Sangamam.
  • The second phase of Kasi Tamil Sangamam will be held from 17 December to 30 December 2023.
    • Last year, the first phase of Kasi Tamil Sangam was held from 16 November to 16 December 2022.
  • Around 1400 people (7 groups of 200 persons each) are expected to attend.
  • The 7 groups of students (Ganga), teachers (Yamuna), professionals (Godavari), spiritual (Saraswati), farmers and artisans (Narmada), writers (Sindhu) and traders and businessmen (Kaveri) were named after seven sacred rivers. Has gone.
  • IIT Madras in Tamil Nadu will act as the implementing agency along with Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Uttar Pradesh.
  • The Ministry of Education, Government of India with the participation of the Ministries of Culture, Tourism, Railways, Textiles, Food Processing (ODOP), MSME, Information and Industry, Broadcasting, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, IRCTC and related departments of the Government of Uttar Pradesh is the nodal authority for the event. Will act as an agency.

 

Objective:

  • The objective of the festival is to rediscover and strengthen the ancient intellectual, cultural, spiritual and artisanal connections between the two cultures.

 

Importance:

  • Stalls showcasing art and culture, handloom, handicrafts, cuisine and other special products of Tamil Nadu and Kashi have been set up at the venue.
  • Cultural programs related to the culture of Tamil Nadu and Kashi will also be organized at Namo Ghat in Kashi.
  • During the entire duration of the programme, various aspects of knowledge like literature, ancient texts, philosophy, spirituality, music, dance, drama, yoga, Ayurveda, handloom, handicrafts as well as modern innovations, business exchanges, EdTech and Next Generation Seminars, discussions, lectures etc. will be organized on other technologies.

 

History of relations between Kashi and Tamil Nadu:

  • The relationship between Kashi and Tamil Nadu is both emotional and creative.
  • Many families in Tamil Nadu adopted the name Kashinath to name their children, such as those living in Kashi and Uttar Pradesh.
  • King Adhiveer Rama Pandyan of the Pandya dynasty, whose ancestors had founded Sivakasi, dedicated a Shiva temple in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu, after a pilgrimage to Kashi.
  • Saint Kumaragurupara has written "Kashi Kalambakam" which is a grammatical composition of poems on Kashi.
