Why in the news?

Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) and the Skills Council for Persons with Disabilities (SCPWD).

About the Agreement:

  • IICA and SCPWD have signed this MoU for 'Job Coach for Inclusion Programmes'.
  • The objective of this agreement is to coordinate the expertise of SCPWD and IICA with the aim of enabling corporations in terms of knowledge, skills and competencies for building and managing a diverse workforce through various entities created under the aegis of SCPWD and IICA.
  • SCPWD, in collaboration with IICA, will take initiatives through “Job Coach for Inclusivity (JCI)” programs or otherwise skill courses in diverse sectors.

Importance:

  • The SCPWD collaboration will result in capacity building of corporate representatives and other stakeholders who wish to step up in the diversity and inclusion area.
  • This MoU has been led by the School of Business Environment, IICA to promote inclusive growth in the country.

About Skills Council for Persons with Disabilities (SCPWD):

  • Skill Council for Persons with Disabilities (SCPWD) is a non-profit organization registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
  • Establishment of the Skills Council for Persons with Disabilities (SCPwD), in compliance with a specific provision of the National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015. It was jointly launched in October, 2015 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
  • MSDE, Government of India aims to fulfill the mission of mainstreaming 'Persons with Disabilities' (PWD).

About IICA:

  • IICA is an institution established as an autonomous body by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Government of India.
  • Which acts as a think-tank and center of excellence to support the development of the corporate sector in India through an integrated and multi-pronged process.
  • IICA provides its capacity-building and advisory solutions through various schools and centers.

IICA, School of Business Environment works in the areas of Eco-Social Governance (ESG), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Business and Human Rights (BHR). The school has also announced plans to organize a national conference on responsible business conduct in December this year.
