98th Foundation Day of ICAR
Context (PIB): On ICAR’s 98th Foundation Day, the Union Agriculture Ministry launched the "Developed Agriculture and Prosperous Farmers" roadmap supporting Viksit Bharat 2047.
● Seven strategic initiatives unveiled, including 100 Climate-Smart Villages, Mission ICAR-100, digital agriculture, and stronger action against counterfeit farm inputs.
● Targets include reaching 100 million farmers, creating One Institute–One Grand Innovation, and generating 10,000 crore internal revenue by 2029.
● Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), established in 1929, is India’s apex autonomous agricultural research body under DARE, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
7th Governing Body Meeting of National CAMPA
Context (TH): The 7th Governing Body Meeting of National CAMPA in Coimbatore emphasised landscape-based ecological restoration over conventional compensatory afforestation.
● Approved Aastha Van Sanrakshan Yojana (AVSY) with 3,000 crore (2026–31) to conserve nearly 15,000 sacred groves (Aastha Vans).
● Extended MISHTI till 2029 with an additional 500 crore, alongside wildlife recovery programmes for Gangetic Dolphin, Snow Leopard, Rhinoceros, Wild Water Buffalo, and Sangai.
● Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management & Planning Authority (CAMPA), established under the CAF Act, 2016, manages funds for compensatory afforestation and ecological restoration across India.
