Why in the news?
Recently, PM Surya Ghar Yojana has been started under the leadership of Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
About PM Surya Ghar Yojana:
- Promotion of solar energy has been started in the country through PM Surya Ghar Yojana.
- Through this scheme, up to 300 units of free electricity will be provided to the beneficiaries living in the country.
- Under this scheme, a budget of Rs 75021 crore has been fixed by the Central Government.
- A target has been set to benefit one crore houses through this scheme.
- Besides, the government will also provide subsidies to the eligible beneficiaries of this scheme.
- Subsidy will be given by the government when solar panels are installed on the roof of your house.
- This is a rooftop solar scheme.
Eligibility:
- Must be an Indian resident.
- No member of the family should be working in government service.
- Aadhar card should be linked to the bank account.
- Annual income should be less than Rs 1.5 lakh.
- There should be a house with a roof to melt solar panels.
- The household must have a valid electricity connection.
- The family should not have availed any other subsidy for solar panels.
How much subsidy will be given under the scheme:
- A 60 percent subsidy of the benchmark cost will be provided on rooftop solar plants up to two kilowatts for each family.
- After this, 40 percent subsidy will be provided on the next one kilowatt.
Importance of the scheme:
- Through the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, people will be able to save their electricity and get electricity through the solar system.
- Through this scheme, up to 300 units of free electricity will be provided to the beneficiaries living in the country.
- Through PM Surya Ghar Yojana, environmental protection as well as energy power will be promoted.
- Under this scheme, one crore families of the country will be given benefits.
