About Pandavulla Gutta:

  • Pandavula Gutta is also known as Pandavula Guttalu.
  • It is a notable hill located in the Warangal district of Telangana, India.
  • Its historical and religious significance lies in the belief that it served as a refuge for the Pandavas during their exile.
  • Discovered in 1990, it predates the Himalayas and has a rich history spanning from the Mesolithic to the middle Ages.
  • Pandavula Gutta is adorned with Paleolithic cave paintings, a rare glimpse of prehistoric human creativity.
  • These paintings, found on walls, ceilings and individual stones, depict wildlife such as bison, antelope, tiger and leopard.

 

About geo-heritage sites:

  • Geoheritage refers to geological features that are naturally or culturally significant.
  • They provide insight into Earth's evolution or the history of Earth science or can be used for education.
  • The sites have been designated as Geo-Heritage Sites (GHS) by the Geological Survey of India (GSI).
  • India, as a member of the UNESCO Convention relating to the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, protects such sites through appropriate legislation, as is done by other countries around the world.
