About Universal Acceptance Day Program:

  • The event was organized with the active support of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
  • The event marked an important milestone in advancing digital inclusion and promoting universal acceptance across India.
  • Theme of this event: "BhashaNet: Promotion towards Universal Acceptance”

About National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI):

  • National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), was established in 2003 as a non-profit organization.
  • National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is a statutory body established under the Companies Act 2013.
  • NIXI manages the country code top level domain (ccTLD) of India, which is .IN.
  • The operation of INRegistry was handed over to NIXI in 2004 by the Government of India.

Objectives of NIXI:

  • The main objective of setting it up is to increase Internet penetration and adoption in India by managing and enabling the Internet ecosystem for the public.
  • NIXI was created to increase the use of Internet Service Protocol (ISP) within India.

Functions of NIXI:

  • Instead of routing domestic Internet traffic abroad, NIXI allows it to be routed within the country.
  • This results in better service quality (lower latency) and lower bandwidth charges for ISPs by saving on international bandwidth.
  • NIXI also operates the Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN), which serves as the national Internet registry.
  • IRINN plays a vital role in allocating and managing IP addresses and domain names within India.
  • NIXI actively promotes the establishment of Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) across India.
