Why in the news?
The 4th edition of ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation Forum (AIGIF) was launched on 28 November 2023.
About the 4th edition of ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation Forum:
- The fourth edition of AIGIF was launched in Langkawi, Malaysia.
- Mr YB Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Government of Malaysia, launched AIGIF 2023.
- India and the 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS) demonstrated unity at the launch of the 4th edition of the ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation Forum (AIGIF).
- The event, attended by 200 participants, aims to strengthen relations between India and AMS through collaboration in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).
- Apart from this, 17 student innovators and grassroots level innovators from India were included.
AIGIF's affiliates:
- This annual initiative is a collaborative effort between the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI); Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India; National Innovation Foundation (NIF) – India; and the host country's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), represented by Yayasan Innovasi Malaysia (YIM) for the year 2023.
About ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation Forum:
- This forum was started in the year 2018.
- AIGIF is an annual event.
- It focuses on promoting stronger relations between India and ASEAN member states based on cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).
- It also strengthens governance in the innovation ecosystem at the grassroots level.
The other three versions of AIGIF:
- Jakarta, Indonesia (2018).
- Davao, Philippines (2019).
- Phnom Penh, Cambodia (2022).
About ASEAN:
- ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.
- Its headquarters is located in Jakarta, Indonesia.
- The Bangkok Declaration, 1967 formally established ASEAN.
- The first ASEAN summit was held in 1976.
- The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional association that was established to maintain social stability and political balance among the post-colonial states of Asia amid increasing conflicts.
- The motto of ASEAN is "One Vision, One Identity, One Community".
- Every year August 8 is celebrated as ASEAN Day.
Members:
- Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
It has eight dialogue partner countries (India, USA, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand).
