Why in the news?

Recently, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched the Amplifi 2.0 portal.

About the Amplifi 2.0 Portal:

  • Amplifi (Assessment and Monitoring Platform for Liveable, Inclusive, and Future-Ready Urban India) portal aims to provide data on Indian cities.
  • It is making raw data from Indian cities available on a single platform for academics, researchers, and stakeholders to help data-driven policymaking.
  • Currently, 258 urban local bodies (ULB) have been on-boarded, and data for 150 cities is available on the portal.
  • It provides data on a range of information for several cities, including, for example, the total diesel consumption and the number of samples tested for water quality.
  • The website provides data on a range of information for several cities, including, for example, the total diesel consumption; the number of samples tested for water quality; the average annual expenditure on healthcare; the total number of people residing in slums; the fatalities recorded due to road accidents.

About The Urban Outcomes Framework 2022?

  • It has been developed for the Ministry by the National Institute of Urban Affairs and PwC India.
  • It shifts the focus from the indices to the data with a comprehensive list of indicators.
  • With this, data across 14 sectors is streamlined to increase focus on data collection, and disaggregated data can be analysed by domain experts.
  • The 14 sectors are — demography, economy, education, energy, environment, finance, governance, health, housing, mobility, planning, safety and security, solid waste management, and water and sanitation.
  • The initiative also provides the opportunity to create new frameworks on open data.

Schemes under Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs

PM Svanidhi (Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi Scheme):The PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on June 01, 2020 for providing affordable Working Capital loan to street vendors to resume their livelihoodsthat have been adversely affected due to Covid-19 lockdown.

  • The duration of the scheme is until March 2022.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Housing for All – Urban)

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Mission, was initiated on June 25, 2015, with the goal of providing housing for all in urban areas by 2022.
  • As of 2022, the Indian government has extended the scheme until December 2024. A significant financial assistance of ₹127,579 crores has been released, with 64.45 lakhs houses completed and 122.69 lakhs houses sanctioned.
  • The Mission seeks to address the housing requirement of urban poor including slum dwellers through following programme verticals:
  • Slum rehabilitation of Slum Dwellers with participation of private developers using land as a resource.

○Promotion of Affordable Housing for weaker section through credit linked subsidy.

○Affordable Housing in Partnership with Public & Private sectors.

○Subsidy for beneficiary-led individual house construction /enhancement.

Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana (National Urban Livelihoods Mission)

  • DAY-NULM was launched in the year 2013 by restructuring the Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana with an aim to benefit the urban poor including the urban homeless.
  • It is a flagship mission under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • It has the aim to uplift the urban poor by enhancing sustainable livelihood opportunities through skill development.
  • Funding: It will be shared between the Centre and the States in the ratio of 75:25. For North Eastern and Special Categories – the ratio will be 90:10.

Smart Cities Mission (SCM)

  • Smart Cities Mission is an initiative of the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.
  • It was launched on June 25, 2015

Aim: It was envisaged as a large-scale urban infrastructure renewal and retrofitting initiative at making urban infrastructure climate resilient and sustainable, providing for affordable housing, adequate electricity and water, and effective waste management.

Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana

  • The National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY), launched on 21st January, 2015.
  •  This scheme was introduced to preserve and revitalize the rich cultural heritage of the country, with a focus on holistic development of heritage cities.
  • This scheme emphasizes on the accessibility, security, safety, livelihood, cleanliness and faster service delivery in the heritage cities.

Aim

It aims to preserve and rejuvenate the rich cultural heritage of the country.

Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation

  • AMRUT was launched in 2015 to provide basic civic amenities like water supply, sewerage, urban transport, parks to improve the quality of life for all, especially the poor and the disadvantaged.
  • The focus of the Mission is on infrastructure creation that has a direct link to provision of better services to the citizens.
